This series has always shown a fair amount of respect for psychics, their works, their understandings and does a reasonable to good amount of research. Suitable for kids and opens doors for conversations on a more realistic basis about physics, psychics, technology, ancient history, human nature, and more -- and entertains at the same time. Oh sure, a lot of the psychic aspects of the program are depicted as belonging to aliens and/or of alien technical design. But, it's TV. And really, lets be honest here, psychics have been called much worse things than "aliens". So, we'll overlook it, in this case.
Not all things that please the eye are only 21 years old, thankfully. There isn't any lack of eye candy in this show. We, here at the JunkShun, like that. Not that we're superficial plastic bimbo's, we're just appreciative; we like it that the cast is givin a little bit of well deserved joy to mommy and daddy or granny and grumpa, while they watch the show; after-all kids shouldn't have everything sweet! The official web-site is top notch, informative and gives a synopsis for each episode. After looking at the web-site, and watching the series off an on for a few years now (the eldest grandson and I like to cuddle up and catch it while pigging-out on whatever), I can understand why they have such a huge fan following. I will be using episodes as class examples in my courses. Of course, much of the related information in the show is unrealistic (or more precisely inapplicable and oddly socio-psychologically unacceptable as of yet) in today's world regarding psychic work application advancements. But thankfully due to advanced technology in genetics and computerized research tools, the fields of physics, quantum mathematics, medical & space technology is slowly but surely making advancements to keep on top of the Psychic field works. I will tune in again to this series which - unlike other shows - doesn't use debasing lines to humiliate my kind. But I must admit, I'm surprised that SG-1's writing and production crew haven't yet fallen into the "touched by an angel / mysterious ways" socially and spiritually regressive "believers-are-idiots-syndrome". BAI-syndrome "buys into" the dishonorable practice of using psychic works & teachings as a source of sensationalistic script material and to draw in the massive Psychic-believer audience to lucrative ends. During which they make fun of the psychics and the psychic spiritual believers both while condescendingly explaining to the viewer that by crossing over to their own elitist spiritual beliefs the viewer will be magically saved from further public humiliation. SG-1 appreciatively shows more respect for it's viewers than that. Well, thank you SG-1 crew and cast. Tune in. |
