Crime
1.
prediction:
Crime Rates in Edmonton are deceiving. We are seeing a
few more fatalities due to crime but two or more at first
appear to be accidental or "other cause" deaths. They
are not obvious criminal offenses and I would consider
that the Police on site may be a bit neglectful or negligent.
1999 crime rate rises a bit but there are not as many
deaths due to murder as recorded in 1998, there are however
more crime related injuries recorded; I don't know if
this is good or bad. (for K-Roc Dec 31/98)
comments: True, lowest murder
rate in 40 years. 2 events looked like murder but weren't.
Crime related injuries went up thanks to gang warfare
and Whyte Ave's barroom negligence. Club Kaos closed down
- thanks to police- and the Joint opens which becomes
the new site of the variety show "Friday Night with Terry
Evans" (with Bill Cowen).
2. prediction: The gang crime as previously predicted
is increasing and again I report that it can be decreased
by Communities across the city and across Canada as well
(predicted: K-Roc Dec. 31,1997). This previous prediction
has now been validated through an article which appeared
in the Edmonton Sun Newspaper, Dec. 28, 1998. The article
says that the RCMP starting a 1-800 line to confidentially
assist citizens in reporting Gang Crime, this concept
is aimed primarily at the Hell's Angels however it includes
all form of Gang Crime Activity in the end result. In
this I am very relieved as this hot-line will show good
results then swing to great results after it is in place
just 18 months. After just 2 months it shows very promising
results that justifies it's cost and continuation.
comments: True, gang related
crimes way up for this city. Aisian car drive by murder,
a few drive-bys re: houses shot up, and an investigation
into police force itself, including an investigation into
the deaths of two young men who either fell, jumped, or
were pushed off of a balcony and died during a police
gang / drug bust. Native Gangs from down east moved in
and war is on. The tips line afforded information that
led to arrests of key Asian Gang leaders in June or July
of 2000 effectively shutting down the operations - though
probably only until their replacements are firmly fixed.
3. prediction: The above and other predictions
already made of mine regarding budget cuts, crime rates
and weather conditions are indicative that our Police
Dept., Fire Dept., and Ambulance Services are under-staffed
and under-equipped. The results of budget cutting and
underestimation will be made painfully clear. It will
then be partially rectified that is, as much as possible
as budget can allow.
comments: Yes, the new budget,
revealed by Kerry Diotte of the Sun shows that police
are requesting 60 new staff, it is also apparent and public
that we need gang specialists and city was openly criticized
for not doing this a few years previous.
4. prediction: Edmonton will be held in great regard
for it's security and Policing/Emergency Services Dept.'s
for the Olympics. (Gee our provincial funds must have
been increased finally!) This also appears in the news
as we do have a problem that at first looks bad on our
City but then our efficiency and compassion is reported
as expemplary in which case we/our Dept.'s will be vindicated
of any negligence or wrongdoing. I hope this is heard
and thusly the issue is avoided. |
