Swartzenegger. Nice, simple plot. But, I don't believe
in the boogyman. However, I just couldn't understand why
the critics generally hated it. The movie delivered what
it said it would, a good old fashioned scary action film.
I think they just expected Arnold to be more of the Terminator
and this movie didn't cast that character. Arnie played
the part of a mortal man with mortal limitations fighting
an immortal being of huge proportions in an impossible
situation. And I think he did a decent job of it. That
he got beaten up and didn't win when a whole mob of possessed
street people attacked him made sense to me. What didn't
make sense was that they took turns beating on him instead
of mobbing him and thus subduing him immediately - but
taking into consideration that this is a movie with action
scenes I felt that it was appropriate for him to throw
a few punches so the ladies could watch his arms bulge.
Ah, well. I liked it. |
I also liked that he had control of the procreation urges that
the demon imposed on him toward the end-his self-control won
the battle of wills. Arnie, always a gentleman. PS, Gabriel
Byrnes was so very evil that perhaps I did believe in the devil
for moment there. The sex scene (can't call it a lovemaking
scene), which I will not describe and thus ruin it for all of
you that haven't seen the movie, will stay with me for a long
time. Scary - you bet. It's the only part of the movie I'd like
to forget, but probably won't until I watch a good old-fashioned
Disney flick again. The next time Gabriel plays a demon I will
make sure to watch, I will also remember to hang a dream catcher
before bedtime- maybe a few. |
