A must read for all of you interested in teletransportation, psychics, spy stuffs, aliens, vampires, patriotism, conviction and unlikely heroes saving the world while set against impossible odds. This series has got it all. These will undoubtedly creep all over your mind like an 'Orleans's kudzu vine.
Harry Keogh talks to the Dead, they love him. They mentor him and soon Harry can teletransportate. As a British Psychic-spy this unusual talent comes in quite handy. But when Harry Sr. is locked within Harry JR's body (an infant) and together they must fend off mutated vampires…. Well, that could be telling you too much!
While the research, regarding the psychic characters is well thought out there were some forgivable exaggerations, not just because it's intended as high action fiction, but rather because even the exaggerations are well thought out, they stay clean and true to form, and are (in some cases) - with research and organization - possible in the future. Brian Lumley points out some of the flaws and hardships that real psychics need live / work with, which I found to be surprisingly sensitive. He's either met a few of us (psychics) or has been up against a hard wall himself a few times. That Lumley is a mature British Army Man whom I suspect was stationed in areas where he was able to see and experience some truly weird psychic stuffs is evident in his clean thinking and presentation of psychics and energy possibilities which he seldom deviates from.
These books are an intelligent read inspiring a rudimentary appreciation for the relationship between psychism, quantum mathematics and physics. The gory characters and their creations have not been "done before" and a reader's appreciation for this type of imagery is not required as Lumley's exacting (but not boring) descriptions certainly stand out in the genre and command respect among those already familiar with standard tales of Vampires and the lot.
The Necroscope series is interrupted by the "Vampire World" series allowing the alien creatures perspective greatly enhancing the reading experience. Each book takes up right where the other left off, a greatly appreciated and obvious respect for the reader's anticipation which wouldn't have been the same without this consideration.
