About

Relaxing at the dentists or doctor's appointment takes a little practice, but is worth it! Did you know most people show high blood pressure during an exam because they're nervous? Here is a simple exercise you should do to keep yourself energy balanced so your doctor can diagnose you on a realistic level. This exercise has a multitude of applications besides being what every patient and medical professional should know. It will help to ease the tension before or during business conferences and even help you to avoid freaking out at the dentist's office because you may be expecting the pain before it begins - if it begins at all. You can repeat this short exercise as often as you feel it is needed while waiting for the doctor and during your exam. I doesn't hurt to tell the doctor you are doing some relaxation exercises. A good doctor would appreciate you making the effort so that they don't have to calm you down by talking about nothing to distract you from the exam (and your stress) and in effect distracting them from their job and wasting a bit of their own time and energy.

Procedure

  1. Sit straight, pull in your stomach and actually feel those muscles move but don't move quickly or force yourself.
  2. Take 3 deep breaths in through your nose, out through your mouth.
  3. Close your eyes and envision a clean round light colored ball on a dark background.
  4. Mentally examine the ball, notice how well shaped it is, notice how bright it is, etc.
  5. Take 3 deep breaths in through your nose out through your mouth.
  6. Flex your hands and feet at the same time, notice the muscles moving. Repeat this 3 times (or 4 if you're in the mood).
  7. Relax your body.
  8. Repeat if desired.
  9. Open your eyes.
